Scorpio Season is upon us. That doesn’t mean much to someone who doesn’t speak astrology so allow me to take a moment to interpret. Scorpio is the astrological sign that represents death, rebirth and renewal. It lives in the darkness and the depths of our lives where the light doesn’t shine as long or as bright. Scorpio is where we go when we need to make a powerful, deep transformation. The seasons do that too… in the northern hemisphere, we enter a time of death where the plants go to sleep, the gardens quiet for the season and the daylight becomes less and less, leading to colder temps, changing colors and the transformation of life as we know it. During this time we change our habits in the way we dress, the foods we eat, the classes the kids take, and even the sports we watch or activities we attend. Everything transforms.

As farmers and homeschoolers, we live very seasonally and each year I’m seeing more and more of how my life merges with the seasons and the signs. I swear I can feel in my soul the moment we exit the romantic, relational and harmony-minded Libra energy and dark, mysterious and intense Scorpio starts. It feels almost visceral to me. My children feel it too and their behaviors take a stark shift in a dramatic way, and power struggles that were not there a few days earlier suddenly become front and center for the next month! All Scorpionic subjects to be sure!

So how does one work best with this energy? How do we deal with an energy that puts us under intense pressure to change the way we do things when maybe we don’t want to? What is one to do with the sensitivities that show up suddenly and the deceit or lies that might come forth during this time? It can all feel like too much when just trying to manage life in general.

My first piece of advice would be to work with the energy, and don’t fight it. Change is inevitable and everything must transform. I’ve seen people fight it to no avail… it does not work. You cannot fight the changes that must take place for your personal growth. Scorpio is an energy that is creative and/or destructive. It’s not half way and it doesn’t mess around! There are no trees that still have bright green leaves in the middle of winter. Even the evergreen trees change to a dull, dormant color. Everything is touched by Scorpio energy… Everything.

My second piece of advice is to learn to embrace and roll with it in the best way possible. What does this actually look like in reality? Well, it looks like making the necessary changes that have been speaking to you. You know what I’m talking about… Your mind has been thinking about making a job shift a lot lately, or you are day dreaming about taking a personal development course to move towards entrepreneurship, or possibly you have been contemplating starting therapy or hiring a coach to make changes with your mental & physical health. These are the things we can do to PRO-actively work with Scorpionic energy. We recognize that our bodies and minds have been talking to us and Libra season showed us where things were out of balance and got us to recognize the scales were tipping towards a change. Then when we hit Scorpio, it’s time to do the transformational work. Adjust the schedules, start researching coaches or therapists, dive into self care and research new nutritional programs for healing your gut issues. Maybe hire a functional medicine doc to get answers on the hormonal imbalances you’ve been dealing with.  No matter what step you take, just take one so you aren’t FORCED to take a different one you don’t want to. These changes will be the catalyst for transformation in a healthy and creative way, instead of a destructive way that blows up your world intensely and painfully!

Recognizing that everything does truly have a season is key to living in a state of harmony and rolling with the big shifts that can feel overwhelming. Instead of getting mad, scared or frustrated with the energies and events happening, you can use astrology to understand and accept them. This is how I use it; as a catalyst for change. When you are working with the astrological energies, you will know that change is going to happen and understand the best time to take action and when that might be. It truly always makes me feel more at ease. The lessons are certainly still there, and some of them are still painful, but I don’t tend to get as frustrated anymore, and instead I see that there is a lesson in the pain and as most of you know… pain is a good teacher.

So, heed Scorpio’s advice and recognize that a part of you must die each year during this time, so that a new part of you may rebirth and the transformation can happen. You can then propel yourself further along your development when the sun enters eternal optimist, happy, and inquisitive Sagittarius in a few weeks. Until then, have a cup of tea, put on some lo-fi beats, curly up with a snuggly blanket and journal your heart out. Allow the tears to flow, trust the process, even though it’s uncomfortable, and know that a new you is about to emerge!
